In this module you will learn about communication and swallowing difficulties in children and adults. This module will equip you with a foundation understanding of the knowledge and skills that are required when planning assessment, intervention and clinical management for clients with communication difficulties associated with child speech disorders, dysfluency, AAC.ĭysphagia, Voice, Motor Speech Disorders, Dementia (15 credits) Speech Disorders, Dysfluency and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (15 credits) It aims to provide an overview of a wide range of topic areas and methodologies. This module will give you a broad background to psychology across the lifespan followed by an introduction to research methods. Lifespan Psychology and Research Methods (15 credits) You will cover neurology and ear-nose-throat to underpin the understanding of the disruptions that may be seen in speech and language. You will gain the relevant knowledge of anatomy and physiology of speech production, hearing and swallowing. You will also learn the transcription of speech and the International Phonetic Alphabet. You will gain an understanding of the mechanisms of speech production and of the relationship between speech production and sounds in language. StructureĪrticulatory Phonetics, Phonology and Speech Development (15 credits) Whether your first degree is health related or not, this course will be a fast track into Speech and Language Therapy, enabling you to achieve a pre-registration health qualification in two years instead of the usual three to four. It is accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This two-year MSc programme is ideal if you want to start a career as a speech and language therapist (SLT). You can select to apply for one of the available exit points for this course.
